Clouding of the natural lens of the eye, which is removed surgically and replaced by an artificial lens. The artificial lens is called intraocular lens or "IOL" for short.
A high quality IOL must replace the optical function of the natural lens as well as possible, and at the same time correct sight defects and fulfill the individual needs of the patient in regard to his or her vision.
These stringent requirements are fulfilled by the function-oriented IOL concept, consisting of Basic IOL, Special IOL, AddOn® IOL and individual functions. Each IOL fulfills specific functions. According to the individual needs of the patient the surgeon chooses the best suited IOL.
The chosen IOL can then be completed with an individual function. The best possible optical care of the patient is thus achieved.
